Capacity
Building
Shanti
Griha has worked in more than 50 villages since inception.
In each of these villages, Shanti Griha has helped strengthen
institutional approaches and better project planning and implementaion
skills. Working with women, the uneducated, the elders, and
also the youth in the villages, Shanti Griha has helped villages
form user groups, worked with them in a manner that they themselves
can identify what is most important, put it down on paper,
and come up with viable plans and proposals that can be sent
to our international contributors.
Learning
to sit together and plan and involve both genders, important
stakeholders, and come up with constructive approaches is
in itself a valuable learning that Shanti Griha imparts in
the villages that it works with. After coming to verbal agreements,
villagers, with the help of one of their own people, write
down what they have discussed, give it a project outlook and
with Shanti Griha training, create working committees, and
are prepared to implement and monitor projects. In suitable
cases, they are given computer literacy training, organizational
structure training, and language training.
Especially
stressed is proper book-keeping, transparent financial processes,
and conflict mitigation when such conflicts do occur . Professional
accountants, computer teachers, proposal structuring teams,
and other inside and outside professionals help Shanti Griha
to build the capacity of villagers in a manner that the knowledge
stays in the villagers and the knowledge is able to bring
them future benefits.
