About
Us
Shanti
Griha works with a multi-pronged approach addressing human
beings’ spiritual, physical, intellectual, as well as
development needs. It has full-time professionals who reach
out through extensive travel to access some of the most underdeveloped
peoples and regions of the country.
Besides
working with infrastructural projects such as building schools,
bridges, and trails, Shanti Griha also works to provide good
drinking water, help improve rural economies through income
generation, and improve human resource capacity through training
and workshops.
Shanti
Griha works with local non-government organizations, community
based institutions, local user groups, and youth and women’s
organizations to implement projects as it believes that the
expertise and the ownership of our efforts should belong at
the local level and not with us
Shanti
Griha has been looking at the experience of other nations
who have seen similar insurgency and violence related problems
we are facing right now. Rwanda comes to mind and the killings
after the state there failed. The initial abandonment of the
Balkans, Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Congo also come to mind.
The
needs of the Nepalese people are few. As Shanti Griha works
to bring succor to the poor in the small ways that we can:
taking in drinking water projects, helping build small trials
and bridges, making community centers and schools, we realize
that we also face a great danger of abandonment by the international
community.
We
ask that the world take heed of our problems and the crisis
that may come about. The people who are suffering the most
should be the main “priority” of the development
world. Retaliatory actions taken against a few should not
impact the fundamental nature of humanitarian aid.
As
Nepalese people, we are doing what we can, entering conflict
ridden areas, risking our lives, working as hard as we can
to help our people. We ask for support not only as an institution
but as a peoples. We are trying our best and your contribution
and kindness and support means a lot to the Nepalese people
and to us at Shanti Griha.
